Rondo lifts Garnett-less Celtics by Mavs (AP)

Rajon Rondo knows he isn’t going to outjump Dirk Nowitzki. So the 6-foot-1 Celtics point guard had to outthink him. Rondo had a season-high 12 rebounds, swiping the ball from Nowitzki and putting in a reverse layup with 42 seconds left to give the Celtics the lead, and Boston held on to beat the Dallas Mavericks 96-90 on Thursday night.

Trevon Hughes scored 16 points, Marcus Landry had 14 points and 11 rebounds and No. 13 Wisconsin held on to beat No. 11 Indiana 62-49 on Thursday night after the Hoosiers rallied behind D.J. White and freshman Eric Gordon. White had his way with Wisconsin (17-3, 7-1 Big Ten) most of the game, finishing with 22 points and 17 rebounds.

Playing without Kevin Garnett for the third straight game, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen scored 26 points apiece to help the Celtics remain unbeaten against the Western Conference.

Alex Ovechkin scored his fourth goal of the night with 1:26 left in overtime to give the Washington Capitals a 5-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. Ovechkin finished with four goals and one assist for five points, but the last one was the biggest. He took a crossing pass from Jeff Schultz and beat Montreal goalie Cristobal Huet from in front for the overtime goal.

Upshaw: Union will accept HGH testing (AP)

NFL players will consent to a urine test for Human Growth Hormone once such a test is developed.
