Magic eliminate 76ers without Howard (AP)

Who needs Superman? On a night a suspended Dwight Howard recorded a double-double in blog and Twitter posts from his hotel room, the Orlando Magic advanced to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, beating the Philadelphia 76ers 114-89 in Game 6 on Thursday. Playing without Howard and injured guard Courtney Lee, the Magic thumped the Sixers from the start.

Seahawks, LB Hill agree to 6 yrs., $38M (AP)

The Seattle Seahawks and starting outside linebacker Leroy Hill have reached agreement on six-year contract worth a guaranteed $15.5 million. The deal could potentially be worth $38 million. Hill became a free agent last weekend after the team dropped its franchise tag on him and Hill refused to sign an $8.3 million tender offer.

Paterno feeling great, back on field (AP)

Joe Paterno felt like he was in charge again this spring. With his surgically replaced hip, Penn State’s 82-year-old coach was back on the field coaching his team the way he likes. He’s more mobile, more energetic and more patient these days, free of the pain that had dogged him for two years. The Nittany Lions are truly his team again.

Canseco to make MMA debut May 26 (AP)

Rondo throws elbow at Hinrich (AP)

Already embroiled in controversy, Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo threw an elbow at the Chicago Bulls’ Kirk Hinrich late in the first quarter Thursday but was not ejected from the first-round playoff game. Trying to avoid elimination in Game 6, Chicago was leading 34-25 when Derrick Rose rebounded a missed 3-pointer by Boston’s Stephon Marbury with 30 seconds left.

Quail Hollow Championship: First-round notebook

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tiger Woods extended his under-par streak at Quail Hollow Club to six rounds with a 7-under-par 65 on Thursday. Making his fourth start at the Quail Hollow Championship, Woods also posted his seventh round in the 60s (in 13 total rounds) and bested his career-low at the event (66, second round, 2004). The 65 was Woods’ best round since an identical second-round 65 at the 2008 Buick Invitational.
