The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because NBA rules prohibit announcing free-agent deals until next week, said the Rockets offered Ariza the full mid-level exception for the first year, about $5.6 million.

Bee swarm delays Astros’ win over Padres (AP)

An unidentified usher tries to move a swarm of bees as they cover a chair in left field during the ninth inning of a baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros, Thursday, July 2, 2009, in San Diego. The swarm delayed the game.

Talk about adding a late-inning buzz to a ballgame. The Houston Astros — who once had the "Killer Bs" — beat the San Diego Padres 7-2 on Thursday, but only after waiting out a 52-minute delay in the top of the ninth inning caused when a swarm of bees took over part of left field at Petco Park.

A new shot in Woods’ repertoire (AP)

Tiger Woods first tried the shot in competition during the third round at the Memorial, choking up on the grip of his driver about 2 inches, and he pulled it off to perfection. He used it again on the eighth hole Thursday in the first round of the AT&T National. It soon might become a regular part of his repertoire, much like the "stinger" he made popular with a 2-iron and later a 3-wood.
