Kobe breaks West’s mark, but Lakers lose (AP)

Kobe Bryant scored 44 points, passing Jerry West as the Los Angeles Lakers' career scorer, but it wasn't enough as the Memphis Grizzlies got 22 points and 17 rebounds from Zach Randolph to defeat the Lakers 95-93 on Monday night. Rudy Gay led Memphis with 25 points, and his 3-pointer with 29.5 seconds left helped Memphis end its two-game losing streak.

Solheim: Can’t ban square-grooved wedges (AP)

Wall: Comments were out of frustration (AP)

Kentucky star John Wall insists he "loves" coach John Calipari and the freshman guard says his complaint following a win over Vanderbilt last weekend that he wasn't having any fun was simply a sign of frustration. Wall received pointed criticism from Calipari following a 68-62 loss at South Carolina last week, even though Wall said he didn't think he played that badly.

Coach Jim Caldwell says the Colts are preparing to play without defensive end Dwight Freeney in the Super Bowl, though he remains hopeful the All-Pro defensive end will suit up for the game. Freeney's sprained right ankle kept him out of practice most of last week. He was already in Florida when the team held its final workout of the season in Indy on Sunday.

Behold the deepest field seen so far in 2010. The Northern Trust Open will feature the seasonal debuts of such dignitaries as Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, Adam Scott, Anthony Kim and Ryo Ishikawa. Soggy start to Super Bowl week (AP)

Rain falls outside Sun Life Stadium, the site of NFL football Super Bowl XLIV, on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, in Miami. Steady rain forced the NFL to take the unusual step of moving its annual Super Bowl media day on Tuesday from the field at Sun Life Stadium to the indoor concourse area.

Rain drove the New Orleans Saints indoors Monday. The NFL scrambled to move Tuesday's media day activities under cover. And tourism officials tried to shrug off the public-relations blow of a soggy start to Super Bowl week. "Sometimes you need a break from the sun," said Nicki Grossman of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
