Big Ben limps in practice, apparently OK (AP)

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was limping due to left knee discomfort during an optional team practice Wednesday, but did not appear to be injured. Roethlisberger, who led the Steelers to two Super Bowl victories the last four seasons, had some problem walking when he left the team’s training complex but his knee was not bandaged.

Dungy, Harrison join NBC studio show (AP)

Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison are joining NBC’s Sunday night NFL studio show. The network announced the hires Wednesday. Dungy retired from the Indianapolis Colts after this past season to end a coaching career that included winning a Super Bowl title. Harrison announced his retirement from the New England Patriots earlier Wednesday.

Avs fire coach Granato, name Sherman GM (AP)

The Colorado Avalanche have promoted Greg Sherman to general manager and fired coach Tony Granato and five others in a sweeping shakeup. The team announced the moves Wednesday. Sherman has spent the past seven years as the team’s assistant general manager and replaces Francois Giguere, who was let go in April following the team’s worst finish since moving to Denver in 1995.

One shot by Serena Williams sent Svetlana Kuznetsova to the court in a messy spill that left her covered with clay. The resilient Russian was down but not out. She squandered a big lead in the second set Wednesday but ended Williams’ 18-match Grand Slam winning streak in the French Open quarterfinals, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-5.

Agent: Titans QB Young not seeking trade (AP)

Vince Young’s agent says the quarterback does not want the Tennessee Titans to trade him, downplaying comments Young made to a Baltimore television station. Major Adams said that Young’s intends to remain in Tennessee and battle Kerry Collins for the No. 1 quarterback position. Adams’ reaction was first reported in the City Paper in Nashville.

Mine That Bird 2-1 favorite for Belmont (AP)

Mine That Bird has been made the 2-1 favorite for the Belmont Stakes, when Calvin Borel will attempt to become the first jockey to win all three Triple Crown races with different horses. Borel rode Mine That Bird to victory in the Kentucky Derby, then won the Preakness Stakes aboard the filly Rachel Alexandra, and is back on Mine That Bird for the 1 1/2 -mile Belmont.
