For the first 17 holes, it was just Doral. And at the end, it turned into the Blue Monster. Sure enough, No. 18 spared almost no one in the opening round of the CA Championship. Charl Schwartzel escaped with par, one of the many reasons why he could shoot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after 18 holes of the World Golf Championships event.

Italy’s Giulia Sergas shot a 4-under 69 to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Women’s Australian Open. Sergas, who plays on both the European and LPGA tours, has a two-round total of 7-under 139 at the par-73 Commonwealth Golf Club. Two South Koreans are tied for second — Choi He-yong after a 69 Friday and Yang Soo-jin with a 72.
