NHL scoring leader Alex Ovechkin is out of the Capitals’ game against the Blackhawks after receiving a five-minute major and a game misconduct in the first period for driving Chicago’s Brian Campbell into the boards from behind. Ovechkin raced up the ice and knocked Campbell into the boards behind the net at 7:44 of the opening period on Sunday.

Taiwan’s Yani Tseng won the Women’s Australian Open on Sunday, birdieing seven of the last 12 holes for a bogey-free 7-under 66 and a three-stroke victory over 2008 winner Laura Davies. The sixth-ranked Tseng, the 2008 LPGA Championship winner, had a 9-under 283 total on the Commonwealth Golf Club course.

The Dallas Mavericks had the most lopsided victory in franchise history when they beat the New York Knicks by 50 points in the teams’ last meeting nearly two months ago. This time, it was the Knicks’ turn for a rout. Bill Walker scored a career-high 23 points, Wilson Chandler added 22 and New York snapped the Mavericks’ 13-game winning streak with a 128-94 victory on Saturday night.
